Odisha CM Mohan Majhi, BJD Supremo Naveen Patnaik, Newly Elected MLAs Take Oath

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s first BJP Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi was the first to take oath as an MLA as the special session of the state Assembly began on Tuesday. He was followed by Deputy Chief Ministers KV Singh Deo and Pravati Parida.

BJD Supremo Naveen Patnaik also took oath as Hinjili MLA in the Odisha Assembly. The pro-tem Speaker Ranendra Pratap Swain administered the oath of office to the newly elected MLAs.

Naveen Patnaik contested from Hinjli and Kantabanji in the 2024 Assembly elections. While he won from Hinjili, he lost the Kantabanji seat.

All 147 MLAs will be sworn in on June 18 and June 19. The Odisha Assembly Speaker election is scheduled for June 20.

Tight security arrangements have been made for the three-day session.

The BJP has 78 MLAs in the Assembly and three other independent MLAs have extended support to the party.
