Odisha Govt Announces Early Summer Vacation for Schools Due to Heatwave

Bhubaneswar: Amidst severe heatwave conditions sweeping across Odisha, the state government has announced a revised school schedule and earlier summer vacation dates.

All schools across Odisha, including government, aided, and private institutions, will now close for summer vacation starting Thursday, April 25th, 2024. This marks an earlier start to the vacation period compared to previous years.

To protect students from the extreme heat, schools will implement a modified schedule for the next three days, starting Monday, April 22nd. Classes will be held in the mornings only, from 6:30 AM to 10:30 AM. This temporary adjustment will remain in effect until Wednesday, April 24th.

The official notification also clarifies that teaching staff will continue their duties during the vacation period. They will engage in various educational activities under the supervision of the respective directors for elementary, secondary, and higher education.

This announcement comes after the government previously ordered the closure of all schools in the state for three days, from April 18th to 20th, due to the unprecedented heatwave conditions.
