Pappu Yadav Merges Jan Adhikar Party with Congress Ahead of Lok Sabha Polls

Patna: Jan Adhikar Party supremo Pappu Yadav has officially merged his party with the Indian National Congress, making a significant move ahead of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. The formal joining took place at the AICC headquarters in New Delhi on March 20.

This merger holds particular significance as Pappu Yadav’s wife, Ranjeet Ranjan, is already a Rajya Sabha member of the Congress party. Earlier speculations regarding a potential realignment with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) were fueled when Yadav paid a visit to RJD president Lalu Prasad. In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, he was fielded by the RJD from Madhepura.

In Bihar, the RJD leads the Mahaghatbandhan, a political coalition that includes the Congress along with three Left parties: CPI(ML) Liberation, CPI, and CPI(M). Pappu Yadav’s previous expulsion from the RJD, on grounds of alleged anti-party activities, led to the formation of his own political outfit, the Jan Adhikar Party (Loktantrik), back in 2015.
