Imad Wasim Makes U-Turn on Retirement After PSL Heroics

Islamabad: In a surprising turn of events, Pakistan’s spin all-rounder Imad Wasim has expressed his availability for national selection just four months after announcing his retirement. This decision comes after Wasim played a pivotal role in Islamabad United’s recent PSL championship victory.

The 35-year-old had previously announced his retirement from international cricket in November 2023, citing a desire to focus on franchise league cricket. However, his stellar performances in the PSL, including a match-winning five-wicket haul in the final, have seemingly reignited his passion for playing for Pakistan.

“I made my name playing for Pakistan,” Wasim told reporters. “If my country needs me, I’m available. Otherwise, I fully understand.”

This news comes amidst speculation of a rift between Wasim and national team captain Babar Azam. Reports suggest the two players haven’t seen eye-to-eye in the past, including during their time together with the Karachi Kings in the PSL. Some sources claim Babar and the team management were unhappy with Wasim’s attitude and perceived lack of team spirit.

With the Pakistan selectors set to announce a training camp squad on March 25th, all eyes are on whether Wasim will be included. This training camp will serve as preparation for the upcoming home T20 series against New Zealand in April.
