Lahore: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has revamped its coaching panel ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024, with Gary Kirsten appointed as the white-ball coach and Jason Gillespie as the red-ball coach.

Kirsten, renowned for guiding India to a World Cup victory in 2011, will commence his role on May 22 in England.

Kirsten, currently mentoring IPL franchise Gujarat Titans (GT), last coached a national team in 2013, leading South Africa for three years. Gillespie, a former Australian fast bowler, joins as the head coach of the Test team recognized for his success in domestic and Big Bash League setups.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi announced the appointments in Lahore, expressing confidence in their abilities to elevate Pakistan cricket. Naqvi highlighted Gillespie’s track record in player development and Kirsten’s winning mentality and talent nurturing.

The coaching positions had remained vacant since Mickey Arthur’s dismissal post a horrendous ODI World Cup 2023 campaign. Mohammad Hafeez briefly led the team before being relieved of his duties. Earlier speculations regarding Shane Watson taking over did not materialize.
