Prajwal Revanna Sent to Police Custody Till June 6 in Sexual Assault Case

Bengaluru: Suspended Janata Dal (Secular) leader and MP Prajwal Revanna was arrested early Friday morning upon his return from Germany at the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru. He stands accused of rape and has been remanded to police custody until June 6.

The high-profile arrest was carried out by a team of female police officers at around 12:45 AM. This move has been lauded by former Bengaluru Police Commissioner K. Bhaskar Rao, who praised the “strong women in Karnataka’s police force” for their handling of the case, sending a powerful message to victims of sexual violence.

Following his arrest, Revanna underwent a routine medical examination at a city hospital before being presented before the court for a remand hearing. The police had initially sought a 14-day custody period to investigate the case thoroughly.

Authorities plan to examine Revanna’s mobile phone, including forensic analysis of voice samples, and scrutinise his luggage seized at the airport, as well as any incriminating evidence gathered during a raid at his residence in Hassan. He is expected to be taken to Hassan at a later stage for further investigation.

Revanna’s legal team contested the extended custody period, arguing that a single day would be sufficient. However, their request for anticipatory bail was rejected by a special court on Thursday.
