Rahul Gandhi Meets Ethnic Violence Victims at Relief Camps in Manipur

Imphal: Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi visited relief camps in Manipur’s Jiribam and Churachandpur districts on Monday, where he talked with those affected by the ongoing ethnic violence.

Accompanied by senior Congress leaders, Gandhi’s visit marks his first trip to Manipur since the Congress secured victory in both Lok Sabha seats in the state.

Gandhi’s tour began at the Jiribam Higher Secondary School relief camp, where residents shared their harrowing experiences with him. According to State Congress president Keisham Meghachandra, residents expressed their distress over the lack of visits from the Prime Minister and Chief Minister, urging Gandhi to raise their plight in Parliament.

Moving from Jiribam to Tuibong village in Churachandpur district, Gandhi continued his interactions with camp inmates, aiming to assess the situation firsthand and provide support.

Before departing, Gandhi is scheduled to meet with Governor Anusuiya Uikey in Imphal.

The ethnic violence between Meitei and Kuki communities, which began in May last year, has claimed over 200 lives in Manipur.
