Rajkot Gaming Zone Operated Without Fire License, Had Only One Exit

Rajkot: A tragic fire incident at a gaming zone in Rajkot on Saturday claimed the lives of 28 individuals, including 9 children, prompting serious questions about safety standards at the facility.

Officials disclosed that the amusement centre, named TRP, operated without a crucial no-objection certificate (NOC) for fire clearance and had only one exit.

The gaming zone was bustling with visitors enticed by a weekend discount offer, with tickets priced at just ₹99. Suspicions point to a possible short circuit as the cause, though officials await the findings of a formal investigation for confirmation.

Efforts to extinguish the flames faced challenges due to the collapse of the temporary structure and high wind speeds, according to a fire department official. The intensity of the blaze was such that smoke could be seen from several kilometres away, leaving bodies charred beyond recognition. DNA samples have been collected from the victims and their relatives for identification.

Investigations revealed the gaming zone also lacked the necessary licenses to operate and had no record of fire safety clearance from the Rajkot Municipal Corporation, drawing sharp scrutiny over regulatory compliance.

Rajkot Mayor Nayna Pedhadiya, present at the scene, confirmed the absence of a fire NOC and assured a thorough investigation without allowing political interference.

With just one emergency exit, panic ensued as the fire broke out, trapping individuals inside. The owner and manager of the TRP gaming zone have been detained for questioning.
