Rishi Sunak Accepts Defeat in UK Election, Keir Starmer’s Labour Party Poised for Landslide Win

Conservative Party is on course for one of its worst election defeats in the general election in Britain. Following it, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak conceded defeat on Friday. Keir Starmer-led Labour Party is marching towards a landslide victory in the recently concluded UK election.

Official results showed the Labour Party had won 326 of the 650 seats in the House of Commons by 5 am Friday as counting continued. It has won enough seats to have a majority in the UK Parliament and will form the next government.

Britain’s first Indian-origin PM Rishi Sunak won comfortably from Richmond and Northallerton seat in northern England with 23,059 votes.

In a speech, he admitted his party’s defeat. “The Labour Party has won this general election and I have called Sir Keir Starmer to congratulate him on his victory,” said Sunak, acknowledging the verdict.

Taking responsibility for the defeat he told voters: “I am sorry”.

Some prominent ministers and MPs such as Grant Shapps and Penny Mordaunt lost the election.

Labour’s Starmer won comfortably from his own seat of Holborn and St. Pancras in London. He is all set to become the next PM of Britain.
