Scrub Typhus Reportedly Claims Fourth Life in Bargarh Dist

Bargarh: The lethal Scrub Typhus infection has allegedly claimed the fourth life in Bargarh district.

Three of these deaths including that of a minor girl due to Scrub Typhus infection were reported in past one week. According to reports, the death toll due to the disease rose to four Wednesday night.

Reports claimed that the fourth patient died while being treated at a private hospital in Bargarh. Givernment has not yet acknowledged this Scrub Typhus death officially.

All three patients who died of Scrub Typhus were undergoing treatment at private hospitals.

Scrub typhus, also called bush typhus, is a bacterial infection transmitted by infected mite larvae. Common symptoms include fever, headaches, body aches and rash.

Last year, eight deaths were reported due to scrub typhus in Odisha, and 2,820 people tested positive, including Arabinda Kumar Padhee, the then principal secretary of the Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment Department.
