Tamil Nadu Villager Finds Meteorite In Gaping Hole in His Field

Chennai: A man from Achamangalam village in Tamil Nadu’s Thirupattur district reportedly discovered a gaping hole with a meteorite in it in his agricultural field.

The man was surprised to see the five feet deep hole in his farmland from which heat was emanating. He informed the police as well as district officials about it.

The officials reached the spot to examine the origin and nature of the sudden gaping hole created in his field. The samples collected from the hole were sent to Vellore and Chennai for analysis.

The local district science officer said that the hole was created by a meteorite that hit the ground. Scientists feel it might have landed from the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. The samples will also be sent to Ahmedabad for further analysis.
