Tehsildar Accused of Taking Rs 1.15 Lakh Bribe Detained by Vigilance in Rayagada Dist

Rayagada: Bichitrananda Nayak, Tehsildar of Chandrapur in Rayagada district of Odisha was detained by officials of the vigilance department for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 1.15.

Receiving information that the tehsildar had demanded and collected a huge bribe amount and was proceeding towards Rayagada from Chandrapur with the cash, a team of Odisha Vigilance tried to intercept him at Dangasarada on the State Highway between Chandrapur and Muniguda.

Sighting the Vigilance team, Nayak threw the bag with worth Rs 1,15,000 out of the vehicle. The Vigilance team recovered and seized the cash bag.

Then the erring tehsildar tried to escape from the spot by driving his vehicle. In the process, he injured a member of the Vigilance team but managed to escape from the spot.

Later, the Vigilance officials tracked him down in Rayagada town and detained him. He is being interrogated regarding the seized cash.

The Vigilance has also raided the office and residential quarters of Nayak at Chandrapur and other locations.
