TMC Suspends Sheikh Shahjahan from Party for 6 Yrs Following His Arrest

Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) suspended Sheikh Shahjahan for six years after he was arrested by the West Bengal Police in connection with the attack on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials in Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district on January 5.

TMC MP Derek O’Brien announced the suspension order against Shahjahan following his arrest. O’Brien said, “We have decided to suspend Sheikh Shahjahan from the party for 6 years. As always, we walk the talk. We have set examples in the past, and we are doing so today.”

The 53-year-old TMC leader was arrested from the Minakhan area in North 24 Parganas. He was absconding since past 55 days. He produced in court in Basirhat and the court sent him to police custody for 10 days.

Sheikh Shahjahan is also accused of sexual violence and land grabbing in West Bengal’s Sandeshkhali.
