Too Rare: Jharkhand Woman Gives Birth to 5 Babies

Ranchi: A woman in Jharkhand gave birth to five babies at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi on Monday. According to medical experts, it is a rare case of pregnancy.

All five newborns and the mother are said to be in healthy condition. As the babies are underweight, they are kept in the Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) under observation.

RIMS Ranchi shared the happy news and posted a photo of the newborns on its Twitter handle as it was the birth of the first quintuplets at the hospital.

The tweet read, “A woman from Chatar has given birth to five children at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at RIMS. The babies are under the supervision of doctors in the NICU. A successful delivery was conducted under the leadership of Dr. Shashi Bala Singh.”

Five children born at once are known as quintuplets, and the odds of conceiving them are 1 in 55,000,000 births.
