7 Dead, Thousands Displaced as Flash Floods Ravage Tripura

Agartala: At least seven people have lost their lives due to flash floods in Tripura, triggered by incessant rainfall over the past 48 hours. The sudden rise in water levels across several rivers has impacted thousands, with more rainfall predicted over the next two days, according to the weather office.

The deceased include one person from Khowai district, one from Gomati district, and five from South Tripura district. Additionally, two people remain missing from Gomati and Khowai districts. Over 200 rescue teams, comprising SDRF, NDRF, Civil Defence Volunteers, Fire and Emergency Services, and others, have been deployed to carry out relief and rescue operations.

A total of 183 relief camps have been established across Tripura to shelter 5,607 affected families. These include 24 camps in West Tripura, 68 in Gomati, 30 in South Tripura, and 39 in Khowai, with the rest spread across other parts of the state.

Significant rainfall has been recorded in several areas, with Bagafa receiving 375.8mm, Belonia 324.4mm, and Amarpur 307.1mm. This has led to the swelling of the Howrah, Dhalai, Muhuri and Khowai rivers.
