Truck Driver Falls Asleep While Driving, Rams Into Tea Shop Killing 5 in Tamil Nadu

Chennai: At least five people were killed and 19 others were injured when the driver of a truck carrying cement dozed off and crashed the vehicle into a tea shop and parked vehicles in Tamil Nadu’s Pudukkottai district in the wee hours of Saturday.

Most of the victims were Sabarimala temple pilgrims, who were having their morning tea at the shop. A car and two bikes parked near the tea shop were damaged in the accident.

Quoting investigating police officials, India Today reported that the driver of the cement truck lost control after he supposedly fell asleep while driving. The truck was on its way to Sivagangai from Ariyalur.
