Justin Trudeau Says He Met PM Modi in Laos, Urges Focus on Resolving Key Issues

Canadian PM Justin Trudeau said on Friday that he had a “brief exchange” with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a summit in Laos.

Trudeau hinted at addressing tensions between Canada and India, which escalated following his allegations of India’s involvement in the 2023 killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Surrey, Canada.

Trudeau told reporters, “I emphasised the work that needs to be done.” While he did not provide specifics, he reiterated his commitment to Canadian safety and upholding the rule of law, key responsibilities of the Canadian government.

Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a leader of the Khalistan Tiger Force and wanted by Indian authorities, was shot dead in June 2023.

Trudeau had claimed that “credible allegations” linked Indian agents to the killing, a charge India rejected as “absurd” and “motivated”.
