Two Congress MLAs Extend Support to BJP Govt in Assam

Guwahati: Two Congress MLAs in Assam extended support to the Himanta Biswa Sarma government while continuing in the Congress party.

These two Assam MLAs, Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha and Basanta Das met Chief Minister Sarma on Wednesday and extended support to his government in the Assam Assembly.

Purkayastha resigned as the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) working president but informed the Assam PCC president that he would continue as a primary member of the party.

These two MLAs have not made it clear whether they will defect to the BJP in future or will continue to support the BJP government in the state from outside.
