Two Killed in 2 Separate Incidents of Elephant Attack in Dhenkanal & Angul Districts

Bhubaneswar: Two persons died in two incidents of elephant attack in Angul and Dhenkanal districts on Tuesday morning.

At the Baragada village under the Bantala forest range in the Angul district, a peasant couple became victims of a wild tusker. Sulochana Biswal and her husband were working in their agricultural field when they were trampled by a wild elephant. The woman died on the spot, while her husband was admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in critical condition.

In the other incident, a man named Chaitanya Nayak was attacked by a wild elephant while he was on his way to the village pond. This elephant attack occurred at Baradapal village under the Hindol forest range of Dhenkanal District. The victim died on the spot.

In May this year, the Odisha government enhanced the compensation for deaths in man-animal conflicts to Rs 6 lakh from Rs 4 lakh.
