Udaipur Teen Succumbs to Injuries After Stabbing Incident; Communal Tension Persists

Udaipur: A 15-year-old boy, whose stabbing by a fellow student led to communal violence in Udaipur, passed away on Monday after battling for life for four days. The boy’s sister tied a rakhi on his wrist at the hospital on Raksha Bandhan shortly before he succumbed to his injuries, according to Udaipur Collector Arvind Poswal.

In the wake of the unrest following the stabbing, authorities have enforced stringent security measures in the city, with a suspension of mobile internet services and heavy police deployment in sensitive areas. Inspector General of Police (Udaipur) Ajaypal Lamba confirmed that the boy, identified as Devraj, died during treatment, and his body has been moved to the mortuary for postmortem.

Devraj was attacked by a fellow student outside their school on Friday, sparking tensions that resulted in the arrest of the accused and his father. The incident provoked protests by Hindu groups, who set fire to vehicles at a motor garage and vandalised a shop in a mall.

In response to the escalating violence, all schools in the city, both government and private, have been closed until further notice. Prohibitory orders preventing the assembly of people are also in effect to maintain law and order.
