UP CM Yogi Aditynath Announces Judicial Probe into Hathras Stampede

Hathras: The CM of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath ordered a judicial probe into the stampede during a ‘satsang’ in Hathras on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, Yogi Adityanath met those injured in the stampede. He also held a meeting with the local officials.

Later, he addressed a press conference in Hathras and said,  “We have formed an SIT, led by ADG Agra. It has submitted a preliminary report. They have been told to investigate this deeply. There are several angles that need to be investigated…The  State Government has decided to have a judicial inquiry as well which will be led by a retired High Court judge. Retired senior officials of the Administration and Police will also be a part of it…”, reported India Today.

The death toll in the stampede rose to 121 on Wednesday. The police filed an FIR against the organisers, accusing them of flouting conditions with 2.5 lakh people crammed into a venue in which only 80,000 were permitted.
