Uttarakhand’s Uniform Civil Code Panel Finalises Draft, Set to Submit Report to CM Dhami

Dehradun: The committee tasked with drafting the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) for Uttarakhand has concluded its discussions and is set to submit its recommendations in a booklet to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. If approved, the UCC could be implemented in the state by November 9, 2024.

The Uttarakhand Assembly passed the UCC Bill in February, and it was signed into law by President Droupadi Murmu on March 13, making Uttarakhand the first state in India to potentially implement such a code.

Last month, CM Dhami reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enforcing the UCC before the state’s foundation day on November 9. He also highlighted other laws like the anti-copying, anti-conversion and anti-riot laws, stating that these initiatives have positioned Uttarakhand as a state with zero tolerance for crime.
