Violent Clash in Jharpada Jail of Bhubaneswar, 4 Inmates Injured, One Loses an Eye

Bhubaneswar: Four prisoners were reportedly injured in a violent clash inside high-security Jharpada jail in Bhubaneswar on Monday night.

According to reports, one of the injured inmates, identified as Papu Barik has lost one of his eyes in the clash. He was allegedly assaulted by the members of the ‘Chakra’ gang inside the jail. The injured prisoners were at first treated at the jail hospital and later they were shifted to the Capital Hospital.

The Jharpada jail authorities have lodged a formal complaint with the Laxmisagar Police Station in connection with the incident.

The exact reason behind the attack is not yet ascertained. But it is suspected that Chakra and his associates attacked Papu Barik following some dispute over illegal narcotics trade from inside Jharpada jail.

Two days back, another clash broke out inside the prison after a group of prisoners alleged an inmate of being a police informer. A case has been registered against seven inmates at the Khurda town police station regarding this attack.
