Wild Bear Attacks 4 Forest Officials in Nuapada Dist, Kills 1 Injures 3

Nuapada: A wild bear attacked a group of forest officials, killing one and injuring three others in Nuapada district on Tuesday.

According to reports, these four forest officials were patrolling in the Bijakhaman forest under the Komna range when they faced the bear attack. They were tracking down a wild bear that had killed a villager on Sunday.

The wild bear at first attacked the forester Gopal Mahanand and watcher Santosh Kumar Tundi. The forest guards Sasadhar Sani and Sagar Thela rushed to their rescue and also faced the bear attack. Four of them were seriously injured by the wild bear.

Hearing the cry for help of the forest officials, locals reached the spot and rescued the forest officials from the clutches of the attacking bear. The injured forest officials were first admitted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Komna and were later shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) at Nuapada as their condition deteriorated. One of them succumbed to his injuries.

On Sunday, Ghanashyam Patel and his son Chayatu of Birunpadar village under Komna range faced a wild bear attack near their village. Ghanashyam died on the spot and Chayatu was injured.
