Wolf That Killed 7 Children Caught Through “Operation Bhediya’ in UP

Lucknow: A wolf that was part of a pack that killed at least eight persons including seven children in two months in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district was caught through  “Operation Bhedia”.

The latest victim of this killer wolf pack was an infant killed on Tuesday night.

A wolf, which was part of a six member pack, was trapped, tranquillized and shifted to a zoo.

Forest officials have till now caught four wolves of this pack and two are still out in the open.

The Uttar Pradesh government has launched ‘Operation Bhediya’ to capture this pack of killer wolves terrorizing humans in Mehsi tehsil in Bahraich.

According to an official statement by the government, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath monitored the operation.

Around 16 teams were used to capture the wolves along with use of drone Cameras and thermal drone mapping techniques. The forest officials used elephant dung and urine to divert the wolves and trap them. Fumes from elephant dung when burnt create a scent that simulates the presence of elephants. Wolves usually avoid large animals like elephants. By creating this illusion by use of elephant dung burning, the killer wolves were kept away from human habitats.
