Woman Accidentally Shot by Cop in Police Station of Aligarh in UP

Aligarh: A woman named Ishrat (55), was accidentally shot by a policeman while she was at a police station for a query related to her passport on Friday.

According to a CCTV video of the incident, a cop was cocking a gun, a few inches away from the waiting woman, and it went off. The bullet hit the woman in the head. The incident occurred at around 2.50 pm on Friday and the erring cop is absconding after that.

Ishrat was rushed to a hospital, where her condition is said to be critical.

The family of Ishrat alleged that she was being harassed for money by the officer in charge of her passport verification. An argument followed and the officer shot her, alleged the family.

UP police authorities suspended inspector Manoj Sharma with immediate effect in this case and a criminal case has been registered against him.

The woman was hit in the back of the head. She was planning to visit Saudi Arabia for an Umrah pilgrimage.
