Zomato in Talks to Acquire Paytm’s Movies & Events Business

New Delhi: Food delivery giant Zomato is in discussions with Paytm about acquiring its movie and event businesses, according to recent stock exchange filings. Both companies have confirmed the talks while underlining that no binding decisions have been made.

In a voluntary disclosure, Zomato acknowledged the ongoing discussions but clarified that the transaction has not yet reached a stage requiring board approval or disclosure under applicable laws. The company aims to bolster its ‘going-out’ segment, reinforcing its position in four key business areas.

Paytm, known for its diverse digital services, stated that the potential transfer of its entertainment business is part of strategic opportunities being explored to enhance shareholder value. The fintech firm plans to prioritize payments, financial services, and digital goods commerce moving forward.

Industry speculation suggests the deal could be valued between ₹1,500-2,000 crore, though both parties caution that current discussions are preliminary and any information should be considered speculative.

If finalised, this would mark Zomato’s second major acquisition following its ₹4,447 crore all-stock purchase of quick commerce platform Blinkit (formerly Grofers).
