Case in Delhi High Court Seeking Stay on ‘Animal’ OTT Release

New Delhi: Approaching the Delhi High Court, Cine1 Studios, the co-producer of the latest blockbuster ‘Animal’ starring Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna, sought a stay on the film’s release on the online streaming platform. The Cine1 studios cited non-payment and a breach of contract with T-Series.

According to an India Today report, the dispute revolves around profit-sharing between Cine1 Studios, its producer Murad Khetani, and the music company T-Series.

The petition by Cine1 Studios Private accuses T-Series of violating the profit-sharing agreement. The counsel for Cine1 told the court that T-Series has been collecting revenue, but they haven’t been paid a single penny.

T-Series, represented by senior Counsel Amit Sibal, argued that the current suit is premature, asserting that the 70-day period from the theatrical release on December 1, 2023, has not yet passed, making revenue statement sharing with Cine1 unnecessary at this juncture.

Advocate Sibal also argued that there was an amendment made to the original contract in 2022 through which Cine1 allegedly took 2.5 crore and gave up all its intellectual property and derivative rights in the film.
