MMM Increases Odisha’s Maize Production by 51%

Bhubaneswar: Under the Mukhyamantri Maka Mission (MMM), the maize production in Odisha has increased by around 51%. It was stated during a high-level review meeting of the MMM convened by the 5T & Nabin Odisha chairman VK Pandian in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.

During this meeting the programmes implemented to enhance betel leaf, Kia flower and lemongrass cultivation was discussed. It was revealed that by the end of November, 44,730 quintal of maize had been collected by the Farmer-Producer Organisations (FPOs). The government has decided to form more FPOs in different parts of the state to enable maize farmers to get proper price for their maize produce. The government had set the target to form 15 FPOs by the end of this year and 13 have already been formed including 4 for women only.

The MMM aims to collect and market 20,000 ton of maize in the first year.
