30 Persons Rounded Up For Gold Smuggling Escape from Lucknow Airport

Lucknow: Thirty persons who were detained at the Lucknow airport for allegedly smuggling gold escaped in a filmy manner. One of them pretended to fall sick and created chaos enabling their escape from the airport premises.

Customs and police officials have launched a search operation to track down the escaped accused.

Officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence and the Customs Department on Monday stopped 36 passengers coming from Sharjah in UAE at the Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport in Lucknow.

During searches, cigarettes worth more than Rs 3 crore and cash worth Rs 23.90 lakh were seized from some of them. Six of the passengers confessed that some of them were also carrying gold.

On Tuesday, when the remaining 30 passengers were being interrogated, one of them pretended to be ill and created chaos. Taking advantage of this, all of them escaped.
