8330 Indians languishing in Foreign Jails, Maximum in Gulf Countries & Nepal

New Delhi: At least 8330 Indian prisoners including undertrials are languishing in jails of 90 foreign countries.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the highest number of Indian prisoners numbering 1611 are lodged in UAE jails. There are 1461 Indians in Saudi Arabia’s prisons while 1222 Indians are confined in jails of Nepal. This information was provided through a written reply by Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar in the Lok Sabha.

There are 308 Indian prisoners in Pakistan and 178 in China, there are 60 in Bangladesh, 57 in Bhutan, 20 in Sri Lanka and 26 in Myanmar.

Qatar has 696 Indian prisoners; Kuwait has 446, Bahrain 277, and Oman (139).
