Accused of 1993 Mumbai Riots Arrested After 31 Years

Mumbai: Sayyad Nadir Shah Abbas Khan, who is an accused of the 1993 Mumbai riots was arrested after three decades. He is now 65 years old. He was absconding for past 31 years.

He was traced and arrested in the Sewri area by a team from the Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Marg police station on Monday.

He is an accused in a case of attempt to murder and unlawful assembly during the riots in Mumbai after the demolition of the Babri Masjid in December 1992.

Khan was earlier arrested by police. He received bail but never attended the court after coming out of jail. The court declared Khan as a wanted accused and issued a non-bailable warrant against him.

Police visited his residence in Sewri in central Mumbai many times, but he was never found.

His whereabouts were traced by examining the mobile phone records of his relatives. When on June 29, police officials got information that he was to visit his residence, a trap was laid to arrest him.
