Honey Trap Gang Busted in Karnataka Following MLA’s complaint, 2 arrested

Bengaluru: The Crime Branch unit of Karnataka Police unearthed a honey trap racket that used to target influential people across the state. The gang was using morphed videos to blackmail the victims.

Two members of the gang identified as Santhosh and Puttaraju, were arrested from Mysuru. A young woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, was also found to be part of the gang.

The racket busted following a complaint by Harish Gowda, the MLA from the Chamaraja constituency in Mysuru.

According to Harish Gowda, this gang targeted businesspersons, people from sophisticated backgrounds, doctors, engineers and professors.

During the initial probe, police found that the modus operandi of the honey trap gang was to track the movements of their targets and identifying the hotel rooms vacated by these VIPs. Then the gang would rent the same rooms and secretly install hidden cameras. They would then use the young woman to lure the targets into compromising situations which were covertly recorded.

The recorded videos were then used to blackmail the victims, with threats of releasing the footage unless large sums of money were paid, police said.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
