Pune Univ Student Beaten Up Over ‘Love Jihad’ Allegation, Probe Launched

Pune: A 19-year-old student of a university in Maharashtra’s Pune city was allegedly beaten up by five unidentified persons who alleged him of involved in “love jihad”.

This incident happened on Sunday afternoon. The male student was at that time with two female students on the campus of the state-run Savitribai Phule Pune University. All of a sudden, five unidentified persons reached the spot on bikes asked the male student to show his Aadhaar card to them.

In his police complaint, the student alleged that after seeing his name on the identity card, the miscreants alleged him to be engaged in “love jihad” and assaulted him and another friend who was also present there.

The police have registered a case against unidentified persons and are trying to identify the culprits.

The university authorities have formed a fact-finding committee to probe into the incident.
