Exchange of Fire Between Maoists & Security Forces in Bargarh Dist

Bargarh: An exchange of fire occurred between security forces and the naxalites inside the forest in Gandhamardan hill region in Bargarh district of Odisha on Tuesday.

As the anti-Maoist operation is still underway, senior security personnel with additional force are reported to have rushed to the spot of the encounter.

Acting on an intelligence report about the presence of some armed Maoists in the forest, a joint team of CRPF personnel and Bargarh district police had initiated an anti-Maoist operation in the area.

When the security personnel stumbled upon the Maoists, the ultras opened fire and the security personnel also retaliated.

According to reports, a Maoist camp has been busted at the spot. Unable to face to security personnel, the Maoists have retreated from the area. Some Maoist materials like arms and ammunition have also been seized from the spot.

It is suspected that the Maoists were planning some violent activity to disrupt the upcoming election process.
