Woman Assaulted, Gang Raped Over Interfaith Relation in Karnataka

Bengaluru: A woman was allegedly assaulted by a group of seven Muslim men inside a hotel and gang raped over her over their interfaith relationship in Karnataka’s Haveri district.

She and her partner were also thrashed by the assailants. The incident took place on January 7. It came to the fore when the victim registered a case against the accused with the police. According to the woman’s statement to the magistrate under Section 164 of the CrPC, the accused left her partner in the hotel room but took the woman with them and physically assaulted her again before dropping her near the lodge.

On January 10 the employees of the lodge reported the matter to the police.

The police have booked the seven accused under Section 143 (unlawful assembly), 147 (punishment for rioting), 448 (house-trespass), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 354 (outraging a woman’s modesty), 354(b) (compelling a woman to be naked), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), gang-rape charges under Section 376(D), 363 (kidnapping), 324 (causing hurt using dangerous weapons), and 509 (uttering any word or making any gesture intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the IPC.

Three of the seven accused have been arrested.

On January 11, the woman’s partner filed another complaint, and Section 307 (attempt to murder) was added to the case.
