Now 7-Hr Duty is Mandatory for Academic Staff of Colleges in Odisha

Bhubaneswar:  From the start of the 2024-25 academic session, the Odisha Higher Education Department has made seven-hour workday compulsory for all teaching and non-teaching staff in higher education institutes in the state.

Through a directive issued by the department on Tuesday, the principals of all government managed, aided, and unaided colleges in the state were instructed to ensure that staff members are present on campus from 10 am to 5 pm on all working days and also submit their biometric attendance. All institutions are to open their gates before 10 am for the convenience of students.

This seven-hour workday for teachers in government colleges was introduced in 2019. But it has been revealed that faculty members were not spending the required seven hours on campus for academic activities.

Responding to it, the Higher Education Department has decided to collect monthly reports from colleges and universities to verify compliance with the seven-hour attendance requirement.
