Delhi HC Blocks Unauthorized Commercial Exploitation of Anil Kapoor’s Persona

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has restrained websites and platforms from using actor Anil Kapoor’s name, image, voice, or any other attributes of his personality for commercial gain or any other purpose. This interim order came in response to a lawsuit filed by Kapoor, alleging the misuse of his personality and celebrity rights.

Advocate Pravin Anand, representing Kapoor, highlighted several instances of misuse, including the unauthorized sale of merchandise, the collection of fees using his image as a motivational speaker, derogatory image morphing, and the sale of pictures with forged autographs, along with the use of his iconic “jhakaas” catchphrase.

The lawsuit’s primary goal is to safeguard Kapoor’s personality rights, encompassing his name, voice, image, likeness, manner of speaking, and gestures, among others.

In response to the actor’s plea, the court issued an interim order restraining several websites and platforms, numbered 1 to 16, from using Anil Kapoor’s name, likeness, voice, or any other attributes of his personality for monetary gain or any other purpose. Additionally, the court ordered the blocking of offending platforms and prohibited unknown individuals from disseminating the offending links.
