Kamal Haasan’s Nayakan to Re-Release in Theatres for His 69th Birthday

Mumbai: Mani Ratnam directed Kamal Haasan starrer 1987 crime drama Nayakan will be re-released in theatres in 4k format to celebrate the actor’s 69th birthday on November 7.

Nayakan, the Tamil movie, will hit the theatres on November 3. It will be released in all major cities across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala.

This was the first movie of Mani Ratnam with Haasan. It also features Janagaraj Saranya Ponvannan, Ganesh, Nassar, Kartika and Nizhalgal Ravi, among others. Mani Ratnam and Haasan have again joined hands for the forthcoming film KH234.

Nayakan was inspired by Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather (1972). It tells the story of an ordinary slum dweller, Velu Naicker (Kamal Haasan) who transforms into an underworld don. It is also said that the movie was based on the life of the Bombay underworld Don Varadarajan Mudaliar.

Nayakan was remade in Hindi in 1988 as Dayavan with Vinod Khanna playing the lead role.

This film is known for its brilliant realistic sets, terrific performances, praiseworthy camera work and heart-melting tunes by music composer Ilaiyaraaja.

The upcoming films of Kamal Haasan are his highly-awaited film Indian 2, and sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD, co-starring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone.
