Raj Kapoor’s Classic ‘Awara’ to Premier at TIFF 2024 in 4K Restored Form

Mumbai: Raj Kapoor’s timeless classic, ‘Awara’, after a spectacular 4K restoration will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2024 in the prestigious TIFF Classics section. ‘Awara’ in its new 4K glory will be screened on September 13, 2024, at TIFF.

The National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) and the National Film Archive of India have jointly completed the 4K version of ‘Awara’ as part of the National Film Heritage Mission. The goal was to modernize the film while preserving the essence of Raj Kapoor’s original vision.

The premier of the revamped 4k version of the movie will coincide with 100th birthday year of Raj Kapoor. The Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has funded the restoration project of ‘Awara’.

‘Awara’ was originally released in 1951. It still lives in film lovers’ minds for its powerful storytelling and memorable music. It explores themes of fate, social injustice, and redemption.

The TIFF premiere of this restored version of ‘Awara’ will also honor the legacy of one of Indian cinema’s most legendary figures.
