150 Ashram School Students Suffering Food Poisoning Hospitalized in Maharashtra

Mumbai: Around 150 students from ashram schools in Maharashtra’s Palghar district suffered from food poisoning and were admitted at various hospitals. According to the administration, their condition was stable on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, as many as 250 students from 20 ashram schools meant for tribal students in Dahanu taluka fell ill due to food poisoning. Their teachers got them admitted to nearby health facilities.

The children suffered nausea, vomiting and giddiness within a couple of hours of having dinner supplied to the schools from a central kitchen at Kalamgaon on Monday.

According to officials, nearly 150 students were still under observation at various medical facilities on Wednesday, while the rest were discharged.

Samples of the food supplied to students in the ashram schools were being tested. State Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and police personnel collected the food samples and sent them to laboratories for testing.

The concerned sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) has been ordered to take up an investigation into the incident. The FDA and police will conduct their own probes.

The affected ashram schools are managed by the Integrated Tribal Development Project (ITDP) and are located in Dahanu, Palghar, Talasari and Vasai talukas of the district.
