Ashram School Student Dies of Food Poisoning in UP, Over 60 Hospitalized

Lucknow: A 15-year-old student of an Ashram School died of food poisoning in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur district on Wednesday. He was among around 80 students from the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Ashram School in Mehroona village, who were hospitalized on Monday with stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhoea after eating the school meal.

A student receiving treatment at Baba Raghav Das Medical College in Gorakhpur passed away on Wednesday morning.

According to reports, at present 61 students are hospitalised in Deoria medical college. According to the Gorakhpur district administration, all of them are out of danger and will be discharged from Wednesday.

Ashram schools are residential free schools for meritorious students from financially weaker sections of society. They are run by the Social Welfare Department of the state.
