Diarrhoea Claims 9 Lives in Kandhamal Dist

Phulbani: Diarrhea and food poisoning reportedly claimed at least nine lives at Kanibaru and Sindhibali villages of Durgapanga panchayat under Kotgarh block of Kandhamal district. Several others of the area are also affected.

These persons developed symptoms of diarrhoea and food poisoning after attending a funeral feast four days back. According to reports, a three-month pregnant woman of Kanibaru village succumbed to her illness last Monday night. Her husband had died of same symptoms two days before.

At present, more than 20 people in Sindhibali and Kanibaru villages are affected. Some of them are undergoing treatment at the Kotgarh Community Health Center.

A team of doctors from Durgapanga CHC has visited the affected villages. The team has collected samples of water, food, and other items for analysis.

Till now, five deaths have been reported officially from the area.
