Hookah Banned in Hotels, Bars, Restaurants in Haryana

Chandigarh: The Haryana government banned serving hookah to customers in hotels, restaurants, bars and commercial establishments across the state, declared Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Monday.

However, the Haryana government has not put any restrictions on traditional hookahs used in rural areas.

The Haryana CM made this declaration during his address at the closing ceremony of a state-level ‘Cyclothon’, organised as part of a drug de-addiction campaign in Karnal.

A few months back, Haryana Assembly Speaker Gian Chand Gupta had demanded a ban on hookah in hotels, restaurants, pubs, bars and nightclubs in the state.

In May, the Speaker of Haryana Assembly wrote to CM Khattar expressing deep concern over the smoking of hookah in bars and clubs.
