2 Dead In Suspected Suicide Bombing In Indonesia

Jakarta: A police station in Indonesia’s West Java province saw an explosion on Wednesday shortly after a man with a knife entered the structure, leaving two persons dead and several others injured, according to police.

According to Aswin Sipayung, a Bandung police official, the explosion happened right after the man with the knife entered the police headquarters at around 8:20 AM.

Ahmad Ramadhan, a spokesman for the national police, informed that the victims of the purported attack were a police officer and the alleged attacker himself.

Further inquiries were not immediately answered by the police.

Videos from the scene showed smoke billowing and damage to the police station, along with some building debris on the ground.

However, the source of the explosion was unclear right away. The country with the largest Muslim population in the world has seen attacks by Islamic terrorists, including ones targeting churches, police stations, and locations favored by tourists.

Indonesia recently passed a strict new anti-terrorism law in response to suicide bombings associated with the Islamic State-inspired Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) in an effort to crack down on terrorists.
