2300 Yrs Old Gold Ring Discovered by Archeologists in Jerusalem

Archaeologists discovered a 2,300-year-old gold ring in Jerusalem.

This ring is believed to have belonged to a child living in the city during the Hellenistic period. The Hellenistic period covers the time in Mediterranean history between the death of Alexander the Great in 323 BC and the death of Cleopatra VII in 30 BC.

This 2300 yr old gold ring was discovered in the City of David during archaeological excavations conducted by the Antiquities Authority & the University of Tel Aviv.

The Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) in a statement said that the ring, set with a red gem, was “exceedingly well-preserved” with no signs of rust or weathering.

It was found at the City of David archaeological site. The ring dated to around 300 BC was “manufactured by hammering thin pre-cut gold leaves onto a metal ring base,” the IAA statement said.
