2 Dead, Dozens Injured in Mass Shooting in US; 337th of the Year

Washington: At least two individuals were shot and 28 others sustained injuries in a mass shooting that took place in Baltimore, Maryland. The incident occurred during the early hours of Sunday at a street party in the Brooklyn neighbourhood.

Acting Police Commissioner Rich Worley confirmed the arrival of multiple officers who discovered several victims with gunshot wounds. Sadly, an 18-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man succumbed to their injuries. The wounded victims are currently receiving medical treatment, with three in critical condition. Authorities are actively working to identify the perpetrator and establish a motive for the shooting.

Expressing his dismay, Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott denounced the tragic event and emphasized the urgent need to address the proliferation of illegal firearms on the streets. He pledged to relentlessly pursue the perpetrators responsible for the senseless act.

This incident adds to the alarming statistics of gun-related violence in the United States, a country with the highest rate of gun deaths among developed nations.

According to the Gun Violence Archive (GVA), there were at least 44,357 gun-related deaths in 2022, including suicides. The recent shooting marks the 337th mass shooting in the country this year, as per GVA data.
