Bangladesh Awami League Leader’s Decomposed Body Found in India’s Meghalaya

New Delhi: The decomposed body of a leader of the Awami League party of the ousted Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was discovered near the border in Meghalaya.

Initial reports hinted that the Awami League leader identified as Ishaque Ali Khan Panna may have suffered cardiac arrest while trying to cross the India-Bangladesh border illegally.

The Meghalaya Police recovered the decomposed body of Panna from a betelnut plantation in the Jaintia Hills district bordering Bangladesh on August 26, around 1.5 km from the India-Bangladesh border.

Panna was identified through his passport. He was a former general secretary of the Bangladesh Chhatra League and a prominent member of the Awami League from Pirojpur district in Bangladesh. It is suspected that he was trying to escape into India after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government on August 5.
