Former Nepal Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand Arrested in Connection with Fake Bhutanese Refugee Scam

Kathmandu: The former home minister of Nepal and Nepali Congress leader Bal Krishna Khand has been arrested in connection with the fake Bhutanese refugee scam.

Khand and his personal aide Narendra KC were arrested by a team of Kathmandu Police Circle for their alleged involvement in the scam where many Nepalis were swindled out of millions of rupees in return for sending them to the United States as Bhutanese refugees.

The number of alleged ones involved in the racket has now reached 12, including Indrajit Rai, who served as security advisor to the then Minister of Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa, the then Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs Tek Narayan Pandey, and Sandeep Rayamajhi, the son of CPN (UML) secretary Top Bahadur Rayamajhi.

So far, 106 victims have filed complaints at the police office. Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairperson Rajendra Prasad Lingden has demanded that the parliament be informed about ongoing activities in the fake Bhutanese refugee scam, stating that it is an organized crime against the state and a matter of shame that high-profile people, including former Home Ministers, have been involved in such heinous crimes.
