Iran Executes Its Second Prisoner Over Anti-Government Protests

Tehran: Iran executed its second prisoner detained amid the nationwide anti-hijab protests on Monday.

As per reports by Iran’s Mizan news agency, the man executed has been identified as Majidreza Rahnavard.

Majidreza Rahnavard had been convicted over allegedly stabbing two security force members to death on November 17 in Mashhad and wounding four others, the report added.

Earlier, Iran executed the first prisoner detained amid the demonstrations on Thursday.

The anti-hijab protests which began following the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in the custody of Iran’s controversial morality police have expanded into one of the most serious challenges to the country’s theocracy since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
